I hope you've had a great week! Here are some updates for next week along with some important
notes from the Dryden PTA, South PTA, Mr. Gries, and Officer Veenstra. The 5th grade service
project starts next week, too. Send in your donations for The Animal House Shelter anytime
April 23-26. Additional information about World of Work will be sent home via email next week,
as well.

Due to the short week, field trip to South and World of Work next week, we will not have grammar
or vocabulary next week.

A note from the Dryden PTA:

Hello Dryden Parents,

Did you know TreeRing plants tree for every yearbook sold?   Dryden has already planted 226
trees this year!! Let’s aim for 400!!

Our yearbook purchase deadline is quickly approaching on April 28, 2019.  Any books purchased
after this deadline will be shipped to your home and there is no guarantee they will arrive by
June 1, 2019.  Why is this date important? One of the Dryden yearbook traditions is to have
your classmates autograph your yearbook. On June 6th, 2019 students will have so much fun
during recess autographing each other’s yearbooks.

Please note-Yearbooks were not purchased at registration and are not included with your
school registration/PTA fees.  You must purchase your yearbook separately by going to
www.treering.com/validate and enter your school's pass code 1014123635244163.

With your purchase you can create two free custom pages and you can buy additional pages if you
would like.  This is a great way to personalize and make a unique yearbook for your Dryden student.
Please see the attached flyer for more information.

If you are using a MAC to personalize your custom pages, please DO NOT use the Safari web
browser.  TreeRing recommends Goggle Chrome to avoid any issues. Custom pages must be
completed by April 20, 2019.
TreeRing has a phenomenal customer service group.  If you run into any problems please give
them a call at 1-877-755-8733.  They can help with editing, design tips, and any technical issues
you may have.    If you have any other questions regarding your purchase, please email
[email protected]

Sincerely,

The Dryden PTA Yearbook Committee

A note from Mr. Gries:

Hello 5th grade parents,

We have an exciting opportunity for your children to increase their fitness on May 7, 2019 in the
afternoon. The Chicago Bears would like to host a Mini Monster Clinic at Dryden. To host the clinic I
need:

12 adult volunteers (not teachers whose students are participating) who are able to help us run drills for
the students. Volunteers must be there 30 minutes BEFORE the clinic begins. Their staff will run
through the drills with you.

You would have to be at Dryden by 1:00PM as the clinic begins at 1:30PM, it will end at 3:00PM.

If you would like to volunteer please send an email to [email protected] by April 30, 2019.

If I receive more than 12 volunteers, I will pull names from a hat.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Also waivers that need to be signed will be coming home shortly. Please sign them & return to me
ASAP. If a student does not have a signed wavier, he/she will not be able to participate.

Thank You
Charlie Gries

A note about the service project:

Dear Parents,

This year for the 5th-grade service project, the students will be collecting donations
for the cats and dogs at The Animal House Shelter in Huntley, Illinois. A full list of donation
items can be found here, but we are focusing our efforts in the areas of care and
wellness and other non-perishable items. If you can donate any new/unopened or
reusable items, please have your child bring them to school and place them in our grade
level's colorful collection box from April 23 – 26 next week.

Thank you!

- Miss Feck (Mrs. Eggert’s sister!) came to visit us this week to share about the Animal House

Next week, students will begin preparations for the collection; we’ll be collecting items for
Animal House the week of April 22nd.

- World of Work permission slips were sent home in students’ Friday folders last week.
Please return those permission slips as soon as possible. Be sure to indicate your child’s
preference for lunch that day on the form; the Jet's pizza lunch is free for any students who
would like to partake, so if you would like to change your student's lunch selection, let me know.
If you are able to chaperone, please let us know on the permission slip, as well.
If you’ve already turned in your slip but are now able to chaperone, please email me.
We’re in need of several more chaperones at this point.  This field trip requires many
chaperones, so all available volunteers will be invited to chaperone.

I hope you had a great weekend!  Here are some updates for this week:

- We will continue our vocabulary and grammar routines next week and following a typical weekly schedule.

Monday- Grammar and vocabulary introduced in class and assigned
Tuesday-   Vocabulary sentences due on Edmodo
Thursday- Vocabulary assignment on Edmodo due, grammar packet due
Friday- Vocabulary and grammar quizzes

- Students in Advanced Math will have the Unit 8 test on Tuesday.  There is a practice test on the Advanced Math page on Edmodo.

- IAR testing continues next week.  This replaces PARCC testing. Students may not wear smartwatches during the testing, so if your student typically wears one, please encourage him or her to leave it at home on testing days.  The schedule for 5th grade testing next week is as follows:

April 8, April 9- Reading Assessment (1:15-3:00)

If you’re able to schedule absences around these times, that would be great!

- Vlogs for students 1-12 will be due on Friday, April 12th. The directions, topic choices, and rubric for assessing them can be found here.

- On April 10th, our class will attend a kick-off presentation of our Fifth Grade Service Project! A representative from the Animal House Shelter plans to bring a golden retriever dog to Dryden. The students will not be in contact with the dog. The dog may shed, so we wanted to confirm students’ ability to participate due to possible allergies or otherwise. This presentation will take place in the courtyard, and we can have a special seating area farther away from the dog if that would be helpful.

Please let me know if your child is NOT able to participate, or if your child may participate as long as they are seated far from the dog.

- World of Work permission slips were sent home Friday.  Please return those permission slips as soon as possible. Be sure to indicate your child’s preference for lunch that day on the form.  If you are able to chaperone, please let us know on the permission slip, as well. This field trip requires many chaperones, so all available volunteers will be invited to chaperone.

- Spring is a busy time for 5th grade!  Here are some upcoming events to note:
  • Reading MAP test- Monday, April 15 (1:15-3:00)
