Here are the updates for this coming week:

With the end of the trimester approaching, and still trying to play a little catch up on other curriculum areas, we will take another week off from vocabulary and grammar.

Students with numbers 13-24 have their next Vlog due on Friday, March 1st. The directions, topic choices, and rubric for assessing them can be found here.

We are now working through our science unit, Investigating Matter! We are doing many hands-on activities and exploring the properties that make up solids, liquids, and gases. We anticipate wrapping up the unit by the end of next week and testing on Tuesday, March 5. Resources to review will be posted to Edmodo or can be found here.

Annual Erin’s Law Presentations given by our wonderful social worker, Mrs. Judy Thompson are scheduled for each class sometime throughout this upcoming week of February 25th. If you would like any further information about Erin’s Law, our district website has some resources you can explore. Our class’s presentation will be the morning of Tuesday, February 26.

Thank you to everyone who filled out a conference request form. We will be scheduling conferences as a building this upcoming week and will be sending home notifications of your specific, scheduled time via backpack mail.

Due to the additional days off from our winter weather, the district has pushed back the end of the trimester and sending report cards home by 1 week. Report cards will now be emailed to you on Friday, March 15th. This DOES NOT impact scheduled conferences or spring break, just when you get the progress report. :) Please let me know if you have any questions!

I hope you had a great weekend and that you stayed safe and warm in the snow. Thanks to Mrs. Murray for planning and leading our class party. Thanks also to Mrs. Krueger, and Mr. and Mrs. Altschuler for coming to lead activities during our Valentine's Day party.

Here are some updates for the week ahead:

Given the day off on Monday, the end of the trimester approaching, and still trying to play a little catch
up on other curriculum areas, we will not do vocabulary and grammar next week.

Students with numbers 1-12 have their next Vlog due on Friday, February 22. The directions,
topic choices, and rubric for assessing them can be found here.

We are now working through our science unit, Investigating Matter! We are doing many hands-on

Students brought home a permission slip for Remember the Titans in last week’s Friday folders.
If you have not already, please return this form as soon as possible. Please don’t hesitate to reach
out if you have any questions.

At the end of February, 5th Grade will have the annual Erin’s Law Presentations. These will be
given by our wonderful social worker, Mrs. Judy Thompson. Each 5th grade class is scheduled
sometime throughout the week of February 25th. If you would like any further information
about Erin’s Law, our district website has some resources you can explore.
We are planning for our parent / teacher conferences that will take place in March. This will be a
wonderful time to discuss your child’s progress so far this school year. Sibling conferences will be
scheduled back-to-back whenever possible. Conference dates and times are as follows:

Thursday, March 21       8:15 AM - 7:45 PM
Friday, March 22        8:15 AM - 11:45 AM

We strongly encourage you to schedule your conference on the dedicated dates listed above and
not on another date or time. Please use the form in the link below to indicate your conference time
preference by Friday, February 22. We ask that you complete one form for each child. A notice of
your child(ren)'s specific conference times will be sent home via backpack mail on Tuesday, March 5.

I hope you had a great week and that you're staying warm today! We had a busy week getting back into the routine and enjoying our field trip to see Tired Souls.

Here are some updates for the week ahead:

Next week we will resume our grammar and vocabulary routines and will be back to a typical weekly schedule.
Monday- Grammar and vocabulary introduced in class and assigned
Tuesday-   Vocabulary sentences due on Edmodo
Thursday- Vocabulary assignment on Edmodo due, grammar packet due
  Friday- Vocabulary and grammar quizzes

We will be starting our next science unit next week, Investigating Matter!

Wednesday, we will be having the Freedom Walkers assessment. This assessment is an opportunity for students to demonstrate understanding of the skills we have been practicing in class with this text. Students should review the work in their Freedom Walkers packets to prepare, as the assessment will have very similar types of questions. The assessment will focus on Chapter 7 of Freedom Walkers. Students are strongly encouraged to pre-read chapter 7 prior to the assessment. They may use the book during the test; there is nothing for students to memorize.

Students will be bringing home a permission slip for Remember the Titans in this week’s Friday folders. Please return this form as soon as possible. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

We will have Valentine’s Day parties on Thursday, February 14th around 2:30pm. If your child would like to pass out valentines, please remember that no food items may be attached or passed out. We also ask that when passing out valentines to remember to include all students in the class. Students will be given a class list. We will not be decorating boxes or bags to collect valentines in class. Students are welcome to craft something at home, or can be given a plastic bag to collect valentines in class that day.

I hope you all had a great week and that you survived the polar vortex! Hopefully this week will be a little less eventful weather-wise! Here are some updates for the coming week:

Due to the days off this past week, we will not have grammar or vocabulary again this coming week in an attempt to catch up with other curriculum areas. The revised schedule of upcoming assessments can be found here.

Students with numbers 1-12 have their next Vlog due on Friday, February 8. The directions, topic choices, and rubric for assessing them can be found here.

Next Friday, February 8th, the students will take a novel test for the Revolutionary War novel they are now completing. We review the study guide and meet in groups one more time next week in preparation. This will be an open book test and students may use their packets and notes from novel group meetings (study guides may not be used on the test). Students should be sure to review their notes and study guide prior to the test to ensure they can use their test time effectively and efficiently.

Global School Play Day is Wednesday, February 6. Details from Mrs. Wasik can be found here. Students are encouraged to bring games to play together during our designated play time. Nothing electronic may be brought in. Our class will be playing Wednesday morning.

We’re excited to head to the North Light Theater to see the play Tired Souls on Thursday, February 7. We will be leaving school by 11:00 am. As a result, we will be eating an early lunch. If your student did not order a sack lunch from food services, please be sure your student brings a lunch from home that day. The lunch does not need to be completely disposable as we will be eating at school. Hot lunch from food services will not be available for 5th graders before the field trip. Students may have a small snack in the afternoon when we return. Please follow the regular school guidelines when sending an afternoon snack for this day (healthy, peanut-free, easy to eat)
