Only one more week until Thanksgiving break! Where has the year gone already? I look forward to seeing all of you next week at conferences!
TREASURES-Another normal Treasures week! Because report cards are done (yeah) these grades will count for next trimester. ADVANCED MATH-The Unit 4 test will be on Thursday. There will be no retake for this exam because of Thanksgiving break. SOCIAL STUDIES-We are continuing our study of the Declaration of Independence. Feel free to follow me on Twitter at @bholston. TREASURES-We will have a normal Treasures week. The spelling and grammar will be due on Thursday as usual and the Treasures, spelling, and grammar assessments will be Friday. The only difference this week is that there is one less day to work on the spelling and grammar assignments. NOVELS-We have finished the first group of novels and we will begin round 2 this week. The children will either be reading Hatchet, The Mysterious Benedict Society, The Westing Game, Pictures of Hollis Woods, or Brian's Winter. SCIENCE-The energy unit is finished, but the final projects are not quite done yet. They will be finished this week and posted for your enjoyment. They will also be available to view during conferences. SOCIAL STUDIES-We are headed back to history and the Declaration of Independence this week. Please return your conference confirmation slips if you have not done so. Thursday is a Monday schedule. We have LMC this week on Tuesday, so please remember to bring in you library books. I will be attending a conference on Wednesday. It is on implementing Common Core State Standards. Have a I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween. The weather did not really cooperate, but our celebration at Dryden was great nonetheless. A huge thanks to our parent volunteers for making it possible. SCIENCE-We began working on a culminating project last week. The kids are working on creating a Rube Goldberg type gizmo on a animation application that uses energy transfers. We will finish the project this week and begin preparing for the Unit test. ADVANCED MATH-The mean score for the Unit 3 test was an 85%! The retest for those interested is Wednesday at lunch recess. TREASURES-This will be a normal Treasures week. Spelling and grammar will be due on Thursday and all three tests will be on Friday. If you have not returned your conference confirmation slip yet, please do so as soon as possible. On Wednesday we will be watching Monsters University and having a pajama day. The kids may also bring a pillow or a stuffed animal to school. They will also be allowed to bring a healthy snack choice (popcorn/pretzels) to eat during the movie. This is a reward they have earned for good classroom behavior. Our trip to Camp Duncan was excellent. The rain held off until the very end and the kids had a great tim doing team building exercises, mountain bike riding through wooded trails, and climbing a 50 foot tower.
