Final Blog of the Year! June 9th, 20196/9/2019

Happy Sunday! Thanks to all the parents who helped out on field day! We had an absolutely perfect day for all of the fun games and activities outside!

The last day of school is tomorrow/Monday. This is a full student attendance day. 5th Graders can bring a small bag to school if they prefer not to bring their backpacks. While we cleaned out and sent home most supplies this week, there are always some last minute things to take on the last day.

Report cards will be emailed home on Monday. If you have not received your child’s report card by Tuesday, you can contact Mrs. Sessler or Mrs. Beane.

At this time of year we are all excited for some fun, relaxing summer days! While we want all children and families to take time to fully enjoy the summer, we also get many requests for resources on how to help kids keep their skills fresh and avoid that “summer slump.” Here are some ideas and resources for literacy and math that might help to keep your child’s skills sharp, while also enjoying all that summer has to offer. :)

Thanks for a wonderful year! Enjoy the summer!!

I hope you had a great week and that you have a chance to enjoy the summer weather today!  Congratulations to the 5th graders on a great musical performance.  Pictures of our class before the big show can be found here.  Here is a video of the dance, as well.

We are done with our vocabulary and grammar routine for the year!  We’ll continue to work on these areas during our literacy block with a variety of other activities.
We are also done with our reading response and vlog assignments.
We’re wrapping up our ecosystems science unit.  The unit test will be Monday, June 3. Resources to review will be shared on Edmodo or can be found here.
We continued this week with The Killing Sea, a novel that highlights the events of the Indonesian tsunami of 2004.  Students will continue to have time in class each day to work on their reading assignments.  They will be taking open book quizzes each day to gauge understanding of the text. Students will also have the opportunity to meet in small groups to discuss plot details and reactions to the story.  Our tentative reading plan is as follows:

An email was sent home about watching the Bee Movie next week to extend our studies of ecosystems. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about your child viewing this film.
Spring is a busy time for 5th grade!  Here are some upcoming events to note:
  • Yearbooks will be distributed on Thursday, June 6th
  • Field Day- Friday, June 7  (be sure to pack sunscreen, a beach towel for lunch, and a water bottle). There will be no “cold lunch” options for purchase that day. Your child should plan to bring a lunch from home or order the hot dog hot lunch.
  • Last day of school- Monday, June 10
Have a great Dolphin week!
