Due to the short week and our Camp Duncan trip, we will not have vocabulary assignments next week. Students should still be sure to complete their word study sessions and reading response or vlog assignments. Students with numbers 11-20 will have their second reading response on Google Classroom due Friday, October 18; students will use the same doc from their last reading response assignment to complete their second one. Students with numbers 1-10 will have their second Vlog on SeeSaw due on Friday, October 18.
We’re wrapping up our first social studies unit next week. Students received a study guide this week; it is due on Wednesday, October 16. Our chapter 10 test will be on Friday, October 18. Resources to review will be posted to Edmodo or can be found here.
We were so lucky to Skype with Dr. Beasley this week! Dr. Beasley is an astronomer and Mrs. Beane’s brother-in-law. He answered some of the big questions we had after our Earth in Space unit. Here is some of what he discussed with us!
CogAT testing will begin next week. The CogAT’s measurement of three different content domains ensures that educators receive a balanced view of each child. The CogAT consists of three test batteries: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Nonverbal Reasoning. Testing totals 90 minutes in length and is given in three thirty-minute sessions over three days. Results will be sent home in November. 5th grade will be taking the CogAT test on Thursday, October 17, Friday, October 18, and Monday, October 21. We will begin testing at 9:10 each day.
Robert Crown permission slips also were sent home in students’ Friday folders September 27. Please return the permission slip no later than November 22, being sure to indicate which programs you’d like your child to attend. Robert Crown staff comes to us, so there are no bus fees. The school district covers the program costs. The district will be offering an informational night on November 12 at 7:00pm at the Dunton Administrative Building for parents interested in learning more about the Robert Crown programming.
Have a great Dolphin weekend!
