Our fiction unit test is scheduled for Thursday, December 20. Students will receive a study guide on Tuesday, and we will review in class on Wednesday. This test will be an application type test, where students will need to read several passages and answer questions related to the skills and concepts we have been working on throughout this unit. Students should be sure they know the literary elements listed on their study guide and should review their “Common Themes in Literature” chart in their reading binders to prepare.
Students with numbers 13-24 have their first Vlog due on Friday, December 21.
There will no reading responses or vlogs due over the Winter Break.
There has been so much excitement and fun with our first week of the 10 Days of Kindness! We will continue days 6-10 next week. The activities for each day can be found here or on a sheet that was sent home last week. Please DO NOT buy anything for the last day. If your student doesn’t have any books he/she is done with at home, a selection can be chosen from our classroom library. Just let me know if your student would like to “shop” in the classroom.
Permission slips for our next field trip went home last week. Please complete this form and return it with payment as soon as possible so we can turn everything into the office before Winter break.
In conjunction with our recent science unit, we are working on some design engineering projects where students researched problems with space exploration and worked to design potential solutions. We have tied these solutions in with the Cardboard Challenge, which will take place for 5th grade on Monday, December 17th.
We have the privilege of Skyping with Dr. Beasley, an astronomer next week, as well! We are submitting some questions to him and he will show us some really cool things about space on Wednesday morning. Be sure to ask your child about this!
Friday, December 21st is a big day here! We will be celebrating Mr. Bob with a day dedicated to him, in honor of his retirement. We will also have Winter Wonderland that morning. That day is also PJ Day, and we will watch A Christmas Story in the afternoon.
Next week the school will have a donation drive for Lurie’s Children’s Hospital. Sophia, Kristina, and Julia from our class have planned and organized the drive, with the goal to collect 100 new toys to donate. Toys donated MUST be new and in original packaging. We also need for any of these donations to be placed in to plastic bags when they are purchased to help keep them free of dust, pet dander, etc. If you are willing and able to send a donation in, please do so any day next week. :) Thank you in advance for helping make the drive a success!
